  • Re: Learning from others...

I'm nearing the end of my freshman year right now, so it's been a while since I've been through the admissions process. Still, here are some things off the top of my head which you may or may not want to know.Don't sell yourself short on your applications. Universities are looking for individuals who are confident in their abilities; being too ...

  • Re: Best Essay Topics

@ faitht - Don't sell yourself short like that! If you don't think you're interesting, colleges won't either. You could answer that question in a variety of ways--describe your family, your faith [if you have one], how something changed your life, your favourite subject in school, your passions, something you've always wanted to do.. Essays aren't ...

  • Re: In-State vs. Out-of-State

I'm from SC, attending a private university in IL, so I'm all for going out-of-state. I have a variety of reasons for my choice, but I'll address your concerns first. It's definitely not weird to stay around for breaks. I went home with my roommate for Thanksgiving break last semester, and went home with another friend for Fall Break [a four-day ...

  • Re: I am stressing out!

Trust me [and everyone else who replied]--you have plenty of time! By the time you're a senior, your top five schools will have changed as you find out more about yourself and your real interests. When I was a freshman, I had my heart set on Yale or Swarthmore. By the time I was a senior, my top five had entirely switched. Right now I'm attending ...

  • Re: Are schools with low standards still good?

I wouldn't stress much about the selectivity of a school. If you are worried about reputation, you may want to call the Career Services office at the school and find out where their graduates get jobs. Ask current students what they are hoping to do and what jobs they've worked in the co-op program. These may help you see the opportunities that ...

  • I am stressing out!

I'm only a freshman in high school and I am already stressing about the college I am going to. I have already chosen my top five. What should I search for in a college? My top five are: Davidson College Salem College Duke University Wake Forest Elon University

  • In-State vs. Out-of-State

Is it worth the extra money to go out of state? I've lived in Georgia my whole life and UGA and Georgia Tech are both good schools, but I'm thinking I may want to check out another part of the country... maybe California. A few of my worries are: Travelling home for breaks will be a fortune... is it weird to stay around campus for things like ...

  • Re: Why do they make us wait so long for admissions decisions?

I feel your pain. THe one nice thing I did was apply to a school with rolling admissions. I already know I got into Wisconsin-Madison... so I know I'm going to college somewhere, at the very least!

  • Why do they make us wait so long for admissions decisions?

Waiting three months to find out where you got in seems like an eternity. I now dread it when people ask me if I know where I'm going to college (mostly family friends or my parents' friends). I want to be like ''Stop asking! I'll tell you when I know more.'' I know, I know... colleges get thousands of applications, but waiting for a ...
