January Interim Term--A one-month term between the fall and spring semesters when students have one of these four study options: on-campus seminars built around a topic of special interest, faculty-led group travel or individual study abroad, career oriented internships, or fauclty-directed independent study or research.Study Abroad Program--Wofford's Study Abroad program consistently ranks in the top 10 in the nation for percentage of students studying abroad. Students can choose between 137 programs in 59 different countries. While studying abroad, it's possible to participate in work and volunteer projects, internships, and directed research. Learning Communities--Since 2002, a total of eight Freshman Learning Communities, each integrating a 4-credit laboratory science course with a 3-credit humanities course have been developed and implemented at Wofford. These courses are designed to dispel the discipline-specific compartmentalization of knowledge and help students integrate information across academic disciplines. The "teaching team" for each Learning Community consists of two faculty members (a scientist and a humanist), and two undergraduate students who serve as preceptors. Each course emphasizes open-ended scientific inquiry, experiential learning (especially outreach to K-12 students), and extensive use of educational technology.

Wofford is the smallest Div. 1 college with a Football program, competing at the 1-AA level. The Terriers have the winningest record in the Southern Conference over the past three years and were the SoCon Champions in 2003.

In 1900, Dr. Herman Baer (an 1857 graduate, retired professor, sucessful businessman, and trustee at Wofford) decided that it was time to honor founder Benjamin Wofford, and made arrangements to place an impressive bronze plaque in the vestibule of the chapel. He worked for hours on the wording and exact arrangement of the inscription. On commencement day that June, the eccentric old gentleman lovingly traced every word with his index finger. Suddenly his hand stopped. Where he had correctly written "beneficent" was the word "benificent." "Be-NYE-ficent!" he shouted. Slamming his cane so hard on the floor that it almost broke, he stormed out the front door and down the steps. Such was his anger that he refused to have the plaque recast, leaving it instead to warn students about the dangers of sloppy work. To this day, Wofford students lovingly rub the "I" for good luck before exams.
