What a lot of people talk about is our size. But for those who choose Ohio State, “big school” translates to depth, diversity, and opportunity. We offer over 170 majors and 700 student organizations, and our main campus is located in Ohio's largest city, Columbus, home to thriving company headquarters, great restaurants and entertainment, and many miles of bike paths. In addition, Ohio State is a top 25 public university and a top 10 research school—students get to take advantage of excellent faculty and a vast array of resume-boosting research opportunities, study abroad programs, and internships/coops. Since we're big, we pay a lot of attention to helping students make a successful transition to college. Our First Year Experience (FYE) program, voted one of the nation's best, provides a friendly, personal welcome to students new to the Buckeye community. FYE programs and events help students connect to each other and take advantage of all Ohio State offers.

With the opening of a new state-of-the-art recreational facility for students, Ohio State has more square feet dedicated to recreation and fitness than any college or university on the planet. In 2005, three Ohio State alums won the Pulitzer Prize (Nick Anderson, Julia Keller, and Walt Bogdanich). Associate professor of history Kevin Boyle was a finalist.
