What Makes Us Unique

The best experience I've had at Clemson is the Clemson experience. It's hard to pick it apart and separate it out. It's being part of a community and part of a family and learning and growing with the support of thousands of spectacular people. —Christen Smith, Class of 2005

"My undergraduate experiences at Clemson taught me to think critically about the work that I was doing and to communicate my ideas visually. I also learned computer-aided graphic skills that I was able to introduce into an architectural firm I worked with during my internship." —Damien Linnen, Class of 2003

"There's nothing more incredible than being in the middle of 80,000 fans when the Tigers run down "The Hill" on a fall Saturday in Death Valley." —Jamie Owings, Class of 2002

"Clemson provided exactly what I was looking for during my college years-challenging academic programs, caring faculty members, a friendly student body and exciting extracurricular opportunities." —Rita Bolt, Class of 2001

"The Clemson faculty were wonderful. Throughout my entire experience, professors, deans and administrators—including President Barker and Provost Helms—encouraged me to reach my goals and challenged me to dream big. Through my interactions with them, I was able to travel the world, expand my educational experience beyond my degree requirements and become actively involved in the campus community." —Katie Brock, Class of 2003

The Tiger Paw is the athletic symbol by which Clemson University is most often recognized. Henderson Advertising developed this copyrighted logo in 1970. Many schools use a similar paw, but Clemson's is unique. Because it was taken from the print of a real tiger, it has a fishhook shaped wrinkle in the lower right-hand area of the paw and is tilted at the 1 o'clock position.

Traditions / School Myths

A popular school tradition is Running Down "The Hill." Running down "The Hill" originally started as a practicality. Before the west stands were built, the football team dressed at Fike Field House and ran from there to the gate and down the hill onto the field. Today, a cannon fires, the band plays "Tiger Rag" and thousands of orange-clad fans cheer the moment when the Tiger football team runs down the grassy hill and onto the field. Howard's Rock, named for the legendary Coach Frank Howard, was first placed on a pedestal at the top of "The Hill" on September 24, 1966.
