What Makes Us Unique

Central Oregon Community College is located in the heart of Oregon's high dessert region, offering students over 300 days of sunshine each year and access to some of the most incredible outdoor recreation opportunities in the Northwest. With over 70% of our faculty holding the highest degree attainable in their field, our faculty is committed to one thing: helping students succeed. No teaching assistants here. No faculty solely focused on research. Faculty are here to teach—it's that simple. The best in their field focused on teaching students everything they know. Sound good? Read on, there's more…

Fun Facts

  • Bob Eberhard - Owner and CEO of Eberhard’s Dairy, one of the largest dairies in Oregon
  • Dr. Fred Stenkamp - Fulbright Scholar and COCC’s first student body president in 1952-53; went on to be a distinguished professor at Northern Michigan University (Marquette)
  • John Overbay - Owner of Overbay Development Corporation, one of the first development corporations in the Central Oregon region
  • Patty Moss - President and CEO, Bank of the Cascades, a bank rated as the Top National Performing Community Bank for the past eight years; rated #6 of 25 on US Banker’s Most Powerful Women in the United States Banking Industry list
  • Ron Bryant - Former mayor of Redmond, Oregon and prominent Central Oregon attorney
A few years ago, a "standard poodle” appeared on campus. He was groomed, had a collar and was friendly, but wouldn't allow anyone to get close. The campus decided to informally "adopt” him and try to befriend him. Our bookstore set up a kennel area and students and staff donated a dog bed, food and other supplies. None of this worked however, and we could still not get close enough to read any information on his collar. Finally, two years later, his hair had grown so long that he began bumping into things... including a staff member who was able to grab his collar and bring him to the vet. One vet exam and haircut later (the vet cut off 14 pounds of hair!), "Winston” is now the best friend to our Bookstore Director and visits campus once each week!
