1. Decision '08: Where the candidates stand on college affordability
With a new school year underway, students and their families must face the reality of paying big money for college. This issue is not only on the minds of students, but on the presidential candidates' as well. But how much do students know about Obama's and McCain's stances on higher education?

Jui Wang, a first year student with aspirations in the medical field, said that he registered to vote as soon as he turned 18.

2. Public meeting details Yellow Line expansion plans
The Yellow Line may soon extend past it's current terminal at Dempster Street to Old Orchard Road, either as a railway or a bus rapid transit line. While the expansion plans have been in the works since 1973, it wasn't until 2003 that Chicago Transit Authority applied for federal funding, signaling the seriousness of it's intent.

3. Students get opportunity of a lifetime to work at Democratic National Convention
Two students at UIC received the opportunity to work at the Democratic National Convention this year.

Joel Ebert and Umair Mamsa worked with a program through the Honors College called The Washington Center that enabled them to volunteer at the Convention.

4. McCain chooses Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin for VP
Following a week buzzing with Democratic spirit fueled by the Democratic National Convention in Denver, Republican presidential candidate John McCain announced his choice for running mate on Friday.

McCain's decision is in sharp contrast to Obama's, in that Sarah Palin is a considerably younger woman with only two years of experience as governor of Alaska.

5. Print it: President Obama
Barack Obama makes me proud to be an American. He is intelligent, articulate, hard-working and dedicated to his goals. He came from nowhere to reach the greatest somewheres in this country. His wife is brilliant and his children are adorable. (Did you see them on the first night of the convention?) He inspires millions and millions of Americans while McCain's supporters are, if not bored then unenthused by the prospect of a McCain Presidency.

6. The audacity of Obama
I wonder what it will feel like when Obama wakes up the morning after election-day having lost the Presidency? Will he think back to the Democratic National Convention and say, "Wow, I shouldn't have made myself out to be a Greek God that night"? Will he ask whether or not it was wise to hold his acceptance speech in a football stadium? More importantly, will it teach this pretentious and out-of-touch politician the meaning of "humility"?

So, Obama's people designed a set that they say looks like Washington D.

7. Vice-less veep
When Barack Obama chose Senator Joe Biden he chose a man who is not known to have any vices except of the mouth. The man is a talker, and he talks talks talks and he talks talks talks. Otherwise, he is not known for having any sexual or ethical issues in his closet, as his family is an all-American model from the 1950s and Biden rides the Amtrak train every night to come home to him.

8. Palin for the future
John McCain's choice of Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin for the Vice Presidency was an inspired one, and it is great for writers to boot. Palin is an intelligent and attractive Governor who has earned respect for her fierce independent streak in the state of Alaska, from challenging the formerly all-powerful Senator Ted Stevens to come clean about his shady financial dealings to being a leader in the pro-life group "Feminists for Life.

9. Letters to the Editor
In Defense Of Image On August 25th Roberto Swa wrote an article titled In Defense Of Image. His opinions can grossly mislead someone into the darkness of judging him or herself by their appearance and not include the intentions or heart. A person must see themselves through the eyes of images formed in their brain by their creator and not what the world suggests because the world would have you believe everything you see on television is reality.

10. The Christian vote
The Barna Research Group recently conducted a poll to find American Christians' preferences for the upcoming presidential election. In total, 19 Christian sects were examined, and only one group preferred McCain.

It is interesting to find that Catholics seem to be leaning toward the Obama camp, despite misgivings regarding his opinions about abortion.
