At a gala evening following President Jack R. Ohle's inauguration as Gustavus Adolphus College's 16th president on Oct. 3, 2008, Gustavus Board of Trustees Chair James H. Gale announced Commission Gustavus 150, a major initiative to chart the College's future and plan for its Sesquicentennial in 2012. The Commission will be led by Warren Beck '67, President of Edina-based Gabbert & Beck.

Who Were the First Humans?, the 44th Nobel Conference at Gustavus Adolphus College, Oct. 7-8, will trace human history from its origins in Africa to modern times. Using modern genetic techniques as well as examinations of fossils and artifacts, world renowned scientists will explore how early humans spread around the world and how human behavior changed in the process.

Homecoming and Family Weekend 2008 at Gustavus Adolphus College is set for Oct. 3-5 and will include the inauguration of President Jack R. Ohle as well as many traditional events such as alumni reunions, a homecoming parade, music concerts, workshop sessions, athletic events, and much more.

Internationally acclaimed bass baritone Simon Estes will perform at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 3 in Christ Chapel at Gustavus Adolphus College. Estes' performance will set the tone for a day of celebration at the College as President Jack R. Ohle will be inaugurated later that day at 3:30 p.m.

Jeanette Larson, 92, of St. Peter, died Friday, Sept. 19 at Redeemer Residence in Minneapolis. Larson managed the Book Mark, the Gustavus Adolphus College bookstore for 35 years from 1948 until her retirement in 1983.
